The Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Workshop, fully sponsored by the Newton-Katip Çelebi Fund Researcher Links scheme, was held in Izmir, Turkey on May 23rd – 26th, 2016. The workshop brought together early career and senior researchers from UK and Turkey in order to explore the state of the art in the trending research topic of entrepreneurial ecosystems and its potential impact on regional and national economies.
Led by Prof. Jonathan Levie, Prof. Erkko Autio, Dr. Katerina Nicolopoulou, and Dr. Serdal Temel, the participants explore and apply current research on how the development of entrepreneurial ecosystems of universities, regions and countries accelerates the production and innovation in products and services and increases competitiveness of economies and economic growth. The ecosystem stakeholder sessions included key representatives of Turkey’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and encouraged concrete actions to enhance the ecosystem; demonstrating the value of the entrepreneurial ecosystem concept in practice.
EERN was introduces as a platform and network for continuous collaboration ny managing director Bernd Wurth. The brief presentation was followed by discussions around the work of the Regional Chapters, topic-specific working groups, and the dissemination of research results as well as calls for collaboration.
The workshop was seen as a great success by both the workshop leaders and the participants. In the post-workshop survey, attendees ranked EERN as extremely useful in continuing the dialogue that has been started as a cohort (average of 1.3 on a 5-point scale with 1 being “extremely useful”). Please have a look at our Research Opportunities section for ongoing projects and calls for collaboration.
